Welcome to Teaching Music Elementary Grades

When we last met in spring/winter term of 2020 it was the beginning of COVID and now we meet at what we hope is the ending of COVID and back in person next week!

We have been scaffolding all kinds of participatory music experiences.

We each wrote a melody for the book Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See by Eric Carle

Below you will see and hear Emily, Maitland, and Sara-Ann

Each of us learned and taught a lullaby from either our home culture or one we were interested in. Below you will hear Wendy and Emily. Really beautiful singing and teaching!
We have been learning and playing Ukuleles. While doing so we have been hearing chord progressions by ear as well as playing along with "sing and play" videos. They were assigned Oh How lovely and Kum ba ya to play and sing in solfege, of course, and words.
Maitland used her ukulele chops for both songs
Leland worked with roommate Max, who was thrilled to play along!
Kavone and Sara singing together in Canon! What a fabulous way to practice ukulele playing, solfege and just singing together as besties!
Here is Rebeca: Kumbaya with a fabulous introduction! (and the end of mask, coming soon), and Oh How Lovely!
Here is Sara-Ann's teaching version with the solfege hinted at WOO HOO!!!
SOLFEGE!

We read the book: This Little Light of Mine - written and illustrated by E.B. Lewis (we thought through how difficult it is to make choices that benefit others, as well as the ethical imperative embedded in choice) and then sang the song and learned the Ukulele chords - EVERYONE loved singing and presenting this - It has to be the words and the message - but what a gift ALL of these videos were to watch!
Picture
Sara finding great joy in singing the song!
Wendy! WOO HOO!
Here is Matiland's version - harmony and all!.
We played the book in class today - soooo beautiful!
Nicole!!
